We were due to launch our Book 'It's Always Been There' at an event early this April. Naturally, the impact of Covid-19 and its lockdown has made this impossible, forcing us to rethink what is important and how we can realistically do our bit in response to the situation.
Born out of collaboration, the book’s very core is one of creative youth and a glimpse at its culture in the UK: the power of community, culture belonging and how this has empowered people from different backgrounds and passions to find a place to express themselves and feel supported through a common thread.
A recent survey has shown that more than 80% of young people with a history of mental ill-health have found their conditions worsening since the Corona-virus crisis began in the UK.
The shock of this impact on young people, their support systems and their creative pursuits, and our desire to help combat it, means we have decided to donate 100% of profits of our allocation to YoungMinds.
Across the country, charities and support groups have come under huge economic strain, with their ability to continue working now tested beyond belief and, in some cases, completely dismantled. Therefore, we hope raising awareness of YoungMinds will offer more support so that they can continue to do their amazing work for the huge amount of young people suffering from mental health issues, who need it now more than ever.
Driven by love, passion, and affection for Carhartt WIP and its traditional championing of creativity, this book is the result of more than 50 people’s contributions over 2 years and acts as a group portrait of the creatives who associate, have been inspired by, or grew up with the brand.
We hope that the interviews, images, and artwork will inspire more young people to harness their creative abilities and continue to express themselves, both individually and as a community.
We would like to thank all the contributors to the project in all of the ways, they helped make it come to life.
The book in its final form has been supported by Carhartt Work in Progress. However, this charity initiative is completely independent of the brand and is something that we (Ryan + William) have decided to do with our own personal allocation. 100% of profits of this allocation are being donated to youngminds.org.uk.
